I’ll never forget my Dad receiving a particular Xmas gift sometime in the early ’80’s. He was given this red, round plastic disc, called ‘a Round-Tuit’. It looked similar to this pic and it sat there on his Study shelf for years, always seemed to get a laugh and also start a conversation.
We often get so buried in the day to day of running our businesses, that we don’t get the time to ‘check in’ across the myriad of essential building blocks that when added up, equate to our Asset Value.
Over the past 6 months, I’ve continued to do most of my ‘reading’ via Audible and also podcasts. Personally it’s increased my ability to learn and it’s given me back some time, by using the commute and also my morning walk, to plough through all sorts of books.
If you’ve ever had to develop a strategic or tactical marketing & comms (action) plan, it’s always a challenge, even if an enjoyable one. It can be quite a creative project and at the end of the day, it’s about ‘selling more stuff’. Regardless of whether the ‘stuff’ is products or services, it is intended that the marketing plan, if implemented well, will create momentum for the business by default. Whether that turns out to be the right sort of momentum and delivers the desired results, is another story all together.
I certainly don’t think so. We go to the dentist, doctor and potentially the optometrist & hearing specialist. We take our car to a mechanic. We seek a builder if we’re renovating. We ask an Insurance broker to consider our needs and find the relevant products. We refer to a lawyer for a raft of things. We have teachers to educate our children and grandchildren. We expect the sports teams that we admire to have someone responsible for getting the best from the players. We might even have a personal trainer at the gym.
Whilst I can’t guarantee you’ll like all or even any of these books, as these are only my personal picks and hence very subjective, they all struck a chord with me.
